“There’s time enough, but none to spare”

I was looking for the source of the quote “There’s time enough, but none to spare,” which a professor of mine used as his email signature, and which (I used to know, and now know again) was invented by Charles W. Chesnutt. In the course of that search, I found this:

“Considering History: ‘There’s Time Enough, but None to Spare’ – A Black History Month Lesson in Critical Optimism,” Ben Railton, Saturday Evening Post, February 11, 2020

It’s a fascinating – though sobering – article, and that concept of “critical optimism” seems worth holding on to – and sharing.
