… truth will not be denied, not for the sake of the ideal, least of all for the sake of experience. Truth is and remains the only soil in which the truthfulness of experience can grow, the only firm foundation on which the ideal can be verified. The miracle of the personal experience of revelation may confirm itself for the will in the certitude of its future verification through redemption. But cognition wants to see another basis under that experience, including even that anchor of hope which it drops.
Franz Rosenzweig, *The Star of Redemption,* translated by William W. Hallo from the 2nd edition of 1930, University of Notre Dame Press, 2014/1985, 107.
