Matters of Interpretation

… but instead there was joy and festivity,
killing oxen and slaughtering sheep,
eating meat and drinking wine.
“Let us eat and drink,
for tomorrow we die.”

Isaiah 22:13

Or, more hopefully, we will not die, but will live … to observe Ash Wednesday, which will remind us of our mortality, and to head into Lent with our faces and our lives turned toward a different source of satisfaction.
